Istituto Comprensivo "G. Leopardi" Calcinelli, Saltara, Italy

Aims of our project

The aim of the project, 'One Europe - Many Cultures' is to remind ourselves of traditions and discoveries from our cultural heritage, looking for what we have in common or what makes us different. The project will explore how we can respect national differences and similarities through cultural activities and daily lifestyles.  It is intended that this multi subject approach will encourage a sense of cultural awareness and appreciation and enable a shared sense of fellowship for the future within the context of a unified Europe. The children will become better users of ICT, since this will be the major form of contact with their friends from partner countries and they will also have to accomplish several tasks by using multiple forms of technology, a task that will prepare them to live in an advanced technological society. Resources such as Skype, video conferencing, emails and commercial software packages will be extensively used.
The project also aims to provide all the necessary modifications, so that children with special needs will be able to actively participate in the project. Through the project, the students will also be motivated to learn foreign languages from a very young age to assist with future career opportunities in Europe.
During the first year of study, members of each school community will investigate information about each country and find out basic information about them, such as customs, religious events and festivals and the impact the weather has on housing.
During the second year, we will explore nutrition, famous people and extend language and cultural development.
Throughout both years we will collaborate work and experiences across a range of audiences, from parents, teachers, children to local councils and organisations.
